Radiographic Inspection
NDE Technologies Inc., of Charlottesville, VA, has licensed "XRSIM - An XRay
Radiographic Inspection Simulator". Drs. Joseph Gray, Feyzi Inanc, Terence Jensen and
Jiadong Xu at the ISU Center for Nondestructive Evaluation developed this software
package. Commercial uses include: training XRay personnel, optimization of XRay

“NDE Technologies provided us with a new version of XRSIM that
includes significant upgrades from the earlier version developed at Iowa State University. This software is used at the Y-12 National Security Complex with licenses for additional use at Los Alamos, Lawrence Livermore, and Sandia National Laboratories. One of the major selling points of the software is its capability to import CAD files and provide accurate X-ray simulations with these representations and assemblies. We are using it to improve our x-ray setups, answer detectability questions, and provide training for radiographers. I have been very pleased with NDE Technologies and the capabilities of XRSIM. NDE Technologies has been very responsive to changes, added features, and small fixes we have requested. The company has clear strengths in the theory of x-ray radiation and its interaction with
film. We have exchanged research findings with their technical staff in the area of x-ray scattering and hope to see an XRSIM version that includes the phenomenon.”
